Recycling does not start at the factory gate but at collection. That is why we run collection, handling and transport ourselves — by road, rail and water.

Three modes, one network
Thoughtful deployment of our own trucks and containers keeps waste collection efficient. The group’s large sites have their own rail sidings for loading and unloading; the Danube port access is used mainly for metal loading for efficiency reasons.

Basis of calculation
- Assumed payload of an articulated truck: 25 tonnes.
- Assumed payload of a freight wagon: 60 tonnes.
- Assumed block train: 23 wagons, around 1,380 tonnes.
- The large MGG sites have their own rail sidings, plus access to the port of Enns.
The payloads are common industry assumptions, not figures published by the Müller-Guttenbrunn Group. Actual utilisation depends on bulk density and wagon type.

Rail
Why we take volumes off the road
MGG Metrec and MGG Metran received the Rail Cargo Group environmental award for the shift to rail.
A block train replaces a considerable number of truck journeys. Because our large sites have their own rail sidings, we can load ferrous scrap and other bulk goods onto rail directly at the works — with no truck haul to a transhipment yard.
The port of Enns handles the volumes for which the ship is the more efficient route. Danubia Speicherei takes care of storage and handling there.
